What is the best time of year?
Autumn, for harvest, is the most active and the most interesting. Spring flowering and summer veraison are quieter but pleasant. Winter is pruning — genuinely interesting, but bare.
Is it suitable for children?
The walk usually is; the tasting is not. Many family-run vineyards are relaxed about children on the tour — ask when booking.
Do I need to know about wine?
No. Growers are used to explaining from first principles and generally prefer an interested beginner to someone performing expertise.
